Cold & Flu

Good Advice

Didn’t your mother or grandmother advice you to wear a hat and a scarf in a cold, rainy and windy weather in order to avoid cold and flu? Well, according to Ancient Chinese Medicine, if your immune system is impaired and you expose your head or neck to rain and cold wind, the muscles tighten preventing the harmonious Chi flow through ‘the wind and window of the sky points’.

The bacteria or viruses can then gain upper hand and cause cold and flu.

Also, keep your feet warm and dry! A research study confirms that exposing feet to a bucket of cold water leads to a runny nose and other common cold symptoms.

Difference between Cold and Flu Symptoms

As cold symptoms you first feel ‘run down – under the weather’ – with some chills. Then come runny nose, sneezing, scratchy throat and cough with chest discomfort, perhaps mild headache, but rarely a fever.

With a cold you might feel a little tired, but not extremely so – as you do when suffering from flu symptoms. And you still have appetite.

The symptoms come when you’re most unaware, often when under some kind of stress or worry. This applies to cold and flu.

One of hundreds of different viruses we carry or are exposed to, is the culprit. If we do not take right measures to stop the most virulent one from multiplying, it can cause a flu.

Here is a list of Flu Symptoms, they are swift and severe:

  • Tiredness(can be extreme)

  • Fever/chills/sweating

  • Headache

  • Dry cough

  • Sore throat

  • Stuffy nose

  • Sneezing

  • Body aches

  • Loss of appetite

  • Usually no stomach symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea (except in very young children).

With flu, you simply want to stay in bed for the first 3 to 5 days. Full recovery usually takes 1 to 2 weeks.

The flu can also be deadly for older and the weak, especially if they are suffering from chronic conditions.

Prevention of Cold and Flu

You do not have to be part of the ‘flu-herd’ of millions of people who fall victim to the contagious influenza bacteria and viruses each year.

The numbers of cold and flu sufferers are mind-boggling. The estimated 500 million cases a year cost US economy $40 billion. It causes more than 36 000 deaths and sends 200 000 people to the hospital each year in the US alone.

And think of the misery cold and flu symptoms bring to those who suffer through them, some of them have to live through agonizing headaches, muscle aches, fever, sweating, sore throat etc.

It’s best to become actively aware that Cold and Flu Prevention is the best method of all!
