Back Pain Relief
Non-invasive Acupuncture and Chinese Healing Herbs for Back Pain Relief
Whether an injury, or just back pains and stiffness, the suggestions you find on this and our other back pain pages can be of great help.
If you’re a baby-boomer and growing older along with the rest of us, you may begin having backaches, knee pain etc., and since you prefer a natural pain relief, Chinese Herbal Remedies and our DIY non-invasive Acupuncture is one of your best choices. Chinese Medicine is rapidly gaining in popularity, including relief for back pain.
Causes of Back Pain.
In addition to sports injuries, lack of exercise and using the body carelessly is one of the major causes of back pains Many of us sit in front of a computer for too many hours a day and do not take breaks to stretch and move around enough to keep the vital energy moving so that the body remains flexible and strong.
Bad habits, such as slouching while reading or watching TV, or wearing shoes with no arch support while standing or walking can lead to back problems. A simple arch support may relieve back pain in such cases.
However, most situations are not that simple and require a knowledgeable health professional to determine what kind of back pain therapy is appropriate.
There can be hidden causes to pain – it can be caused by a kidney or bladder problem, constipation, abnormal curvature of the spine, excessive weight, female pelvic problems, osteoporosis, even emotions or stress.
The main cause of a chronic back and leg pain could be a herniated disk, therefore it’s important to have this checked out by an MRI or Xray. Visit a doctor, have appropriate tests performed and choose the back pain therapy best suited to the situation.
Chinese Medicine Back Pain Therapy Corrects Energy Imbalance
A sports injury suffered by a young person can be the sole cause of back pain. In TCM this would belong to a category called Chi and Blood Stasis. But the patterns of disharmony may overlap. For instance, acute or chronic rheumatic symptoms aggravated by damp and cold are often influenced by an underlying kidney deficiency.
In all cases, we have a disruption of energy and blood flow or a short supply of one or both.
Using Needle-less Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs treats the cause while providing Back Pain Relief.
Chi is a moving force that pervades all that exists. It adjusts to the qualities present in its environment and causes changes according to the physical or emotional influences. When plenty of Chi flows naturally the blood is nourished, the cell ‘pumps’ in vessels, muscles and ligaments fire with ample oxygen, the sodium/potassium intake and outflow is balanced, and through it we stay healthy, energetic and pain-free.
Traumatic Injury.
For most sports enthusiasts the first line of action after sports or other injury is to use an ice pack and to reach for painkillers. But more natural, effective and popular analgesic in China is ‘Scandent Schefflera – Qi Ye Lian’. It contains the root of Schefflera and Rz. Corydalis, a well known pain-relieving remedy. Another one is ‘Muscles and Bones Traumatic Injury Pill – Jin Gu Die Shang Wan’, which relieves pain as well as bruising and swelling in early stages of injury.
Liniments such as ‘Zheng Gu Shui’ or medicated plasters such as ‘Plaster for Bruise and Analgesic – Die Ta Zhi Tong Gao’ you can apply to the injured area (as long as the skin is intact).
Most of the Chinese Herbal Remedies recommended on our pages are available from a Chinese herbalist in your area
In a modified form, including medicines for back pain relief, are also available from North American manufacturers. In the Back Pain Supplements and Information section of www.herbalremedies.com you’ll find effective remedies in a pill or capsule form, or as liniments and plasters. You can even order a Natural Aspirin Alternative and a Back Support Belt if needed.
Remedies for Rheumatic Pain and Kidney Weakness
According to TCM, the kidneys are the foundation of life. As we get older our aches and pains are usually associated with Kidney weakness.
By studying our pages on Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture and how it corresponds to Western neuroscience gives you an understanding of your body’s strengths and weaknesses. By asking questions you’ll know which of the patterns of disharmony is predominant in your particular situation, and you’ll learn about the acupuncture points and the herbal remedies to be used as well as other ideas for your Back Pain Therapy.
There are many Chinese healing herb formulas that alleviate pain as well as nourish the kidney function. One of them is ‘Golden Deficient Kidney Pill or Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan’, which is also used in impotence, infertility and sexual dysfunction. Check out ‘Kidney Rejuvenator, ‘Arth-X Platinum’ and ‘Back Soothe Wellness Oil’.
One great thing about the above products is that they are 100% natural herbal remedies. They carry no preservatives, no artificial colours and no chemicals.
One Western natural product I always have on hand, have used it myself and recommended to my patients through the years is DMSO. Gently rub a few drops of it on the painful area. It penetrates through the skin and flushes out toxins and excess fluids, and it eases the pain.
You can also use other natural home remedies such as Pau d’Arco, Burdock, Horsetail herb, Comfrey, Slippery Elm and White Willow bark, which can be brewed and drank as a tea for back pain relief.
You may buy the following Back Pain Remedies from a Chinese Herbalist:
-
Scandent Schefflera – Qi Ye Lian
-
Muscles and Bones Traumatic Injury Pill – Jin Gu Die Shang Wan
-
Rectify Bone Liquid – Zheng Gu Shui – a liniment

About Back Pain
Suffering from Back Pain?
Using our easy to use portable Needle-less Acupuncture kit can help to overcome pain and improve your overall health.
Most everyone suffers from upper or lower back pains at one time or another in their life. Some people find that the pain comes and goes while others have to endure it day in and day out.
What causes aches and pains?
The root cause is not always easy to detect. It can be a sign of other health problems, therefore you must search for the root cause, and then find an appropriate relief and hopefully a permanent cure.
Whether acute or chronic, back pain could be a result of bad habits which can eventually lead to pain.
It could be a poor posture while standing or sitting, wrong footwear and walking habits, or sleeping on a too soft mattress.
Female pelvic, and kidney/bladder problems in both sexes or an abnormal curvature of the spine can be a cause of back pain.
Sciatica or severe lower back pain travelling down along the nerves can result from a bulging or herniated disc pressing on the root of the sciatic nerve. Ask your doctor to have an X-ray or MRI performed to rule them out.
Also, many doctors believe that even severe back pain can be a result of deep-seated emotional or stress-related problems.
Using our non-invasive Acupuncture Stones treated with Nanotechnology dissolves pain on neural and energy channels.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years, and the Acupuncture doctor sees most pain, including back pain as an energy imbalance. Even here in the West, Acupuncture is becoming a treatment of choice for many people as pain relief. Also, Chinese Herbal Remedies in a pill form or in topical plasters or liniments can provide effective relief for back pain.
Know Your Body’s Strengths and Weaknesses
According to TCM, the kidneys are the foundation of life. As we get older the aches and pains we experience are usually associated with Kidney Yin and/or Yang weakness.
One or a few visits to a well trained Chinese Medicine doctor in your area could give you an understanding of your body’s strengths and weaknesses.
By asking questions you would know which of the patterns of disharmony is predominant in your particular situation and learn about the acupuncture points or the herbal remedies to be used.

Other Tips for Defeating Back Pain
-
Always bend your knees when picking up something.
-
Do not use the small muscles in the back when lifting objects – use arms, abdominal muscles and bent knees.
-
In an acute phase of backache avoid meats and animal protein products – they contain uric acid, which can aggravate the back and leg pain.
-
Avoid highly acidic foods such as tomatoes, peppers, oranges, eggplant, caffeine, chocolate, and white flour or sugar products.
-
Sleep on a firm mattress with your knees bent and head supported by a pillow.
Elbow Pain
When Bill came to see me he stated that he had suffered from elbow pain for many months. Before his retirement he had worked in a warehouse, where he had to move things around, most likely he had lifted something heavy while working, which caused the strain and pain.
“Hardly noticeable first, the elbow joint pain became later unbearable, particularly at night after I had worked in the garden or carried heavy bags of groceries. The joints felt burning and were slightly swollen.
Visits to the doctor brought no relief. I tried painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications, to no avail. I could not lift grocery bags or my knapsack with such extreme pain.
After using the D.I.Y. Acupuncture stones in one treatment only, I had immediate relief. After eight treatments, the pain was totally gone.
I can lift heavy bags and objects with no problems. I recommend the holistic healing disks unequivocally. I continue to use them once a week to maintain a pain -free existence.”
Elbow Pain is often a result of an injury
Any kind of physical work where you have to lift or have repetitive movements of the arms such as moving things, plumbing, bricklaying etc. can cause strain with small tears in the tendons of the forearm.
This can happen in sports i.e. baseball, golf or tennis – that is why elbow pain is often referred to as a tennis elbow.
When the tendons are strained in a sudden movement you may experience a slight pain as it happens, and not using the elbow for a few days allows the self-healing energy of the body to take care of it.
If you suffer from an acute strain that causes minor elbow pain to apply ice pack on it immediately and use the joint as little as possible for a few days so that natural healing can take place.
Only after the tendons are totally healed should you start rebuilding the strength of the elbow.
However, if the condition is not treated, inflammation with calcium and mineral deposits can develop in the joints, which of course makes the pain worse. Neglecting to take care of the first signs can lead to serious problems.
Earlier injuries can later develop into osteoarthritis, a progressive disease which affects body joints. The cartilage breaks down and the loose bits of tissue cause inflammation, pain and poor function of the joint.
Ancient Acupuncture and Elbow Pain
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, any pain is a signal that Chi energy or/and blood are blocked, not moving in their natural way. Acupuncture helps increase and regulate movement within the energy and neural channels.
The results are often astounding, therefore Acupuncture has become a treatment of choice as alternative pain relief. The healing stones work on the ancient Acupuncture Principles.
In Bill’s case, Nano Acupuncture opened up the natural flow of energy and blood, flushing out the debris that had collected around and between the bones. This way the underlying problem was cleared, and the elbow pain was permanently erased.

Sciatic Nerve Pain
Sciatic Nerve Pain – Western Classification
If you suffer from sciatic nerve pain and are searching for a mainstream or an alternative pain relief, it is a good idea to understand the possible causes of your pain.
On this page we consider Western classification. On our Sciatica Symptoms page you can find out how ancient Chinese Medicine differentiates it.
What is Sciatica?
The word sciatica itself is a medical term for a pain caused by low back conditions.
Experienced usually on one side of the body, the pain radiates down the back or outside of the leg along the nerve and/or its branches, often all the way to the ankle even toes. When it is consistently felt below the knee the condition is considered ‘genuine’ sciatica.
The root of the sciatic nerve, the longest peripheral nerve of the body, emerges from the spine in the lumbar area, where the nerve roots may become irritated, inflamed, compressed or some other way adversely affected. The cause of sciatic nerve pain could be one of these conditions.
Starting where the sciatic nerve emerges from the spinal canal in the lumbar area, a disk that is suppose to provide cushion between the vertebra, may have lost its shape and is now pressing on the nerve therefore causing sciatica symptoms.
The name Bulging Disk is used when the gel-like center pushes against the disk’s outer wall. And when the center breaks through the bulge, the condition is called a Herniated Disc. In both cases, the gel-like center presses on the root causing pain.
Herniated Disk results in a more severe condition because the disc material that leaks out contains an acidic chemical irritant (hyaluronic acid) that causes nerve inflammation.
Degenerative Disk Disease (DDD) is a result of an ageing process, which affects the healthy shape and function of the discs. This can result in a bulging or herniated disk and therefore in sciatic nerve pain.
Piriform Syndrome. The sciatic nerve runs under the piriformis muscle. From the lower back, this muscle connects to the thighbone and helps you rotate your hip. A muscle spasms in the Piriform can compress and cause pain. Not easily identified by X-ray or MRI, it may be difficult to diagnose and treat.
In Pregnancy the extra weight of the womb can cause pressure on the spine and compress the sciatic nerve. After the childbirth, the symptoms usually subside.
Spinal Stenosis. The nerves travel through the spinal canal and if the canal space in the lower back narrows because of a bone overgrowth, for instance, the pressure can be the reason for the sciatic nerve pain.
Spinal Tumors and Spinal Infections are rare but if this happens, they can compress the nerve causing pain.
In a condition called Spondylolisthesis, a vertebra slips over the one below it. This can pinch the nerve root leading to sciatica.
Trauma in the lower back as a result of an accident can cause a pinched nerve and therefore acute pain that radiates along the side or back of the leg.
It may also be that the body has had earlier injuries such as ski accidents, which I personally experienced when young. The pressure on the nerve root increases year by year finally manifesting in excruciating sciatic nerve pain.
In my case, the disk between the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae became herniated therefore pressing on the nerve root and causing the pain which increased slowly.
For years, the pains I experienced were treated with Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Remedies but periodically, particularly when the weather was cold and damp, they returned with vengeance.
Eventually, a successful Micro Disectomy was performed, which set me permanently free from pain. For this, I am truly thankful for our modern medicine.
In addition to the above classification, the chronic back and leg pains can be seen as Rheumatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteo Arthritis and Gout.
Job Dissatisfaction, Stress or Emotional Distress are often correlated with both, acute and chronic back and sciatic nerve pain.
Sciatica Pain Relief
Chinese Medicine provides an effective Sciatica Pain Relief
We experience painful sciatica pain when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or inflamed.
Usually affecting only one side of the body, sciatica back pain radiates to the hips and down along the back or side of a leg, in severe cases all the way to the ankle even toes.
This kind of back and leg pain can be burning and sharp, but it can also be dull, making some areas feel numb, and there could be difficulty in controlling movement.
Sciatica symptoms can be constant or occasional, and is often affected by damp and cold weather.
Acupuncture for Sciatica Pain
Not as analytical as Western Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) aims to penetrate into the cause of pain as well as the person’s environment in order to understand and treat any pain or disease.
We ask, Is this Internal or External condition, is it Hot or Cold, Excess or Deficiency, and finally how do the symptoms relate to the overall Yin/Yang state of the person, since the ultimate goal is to establish complete balance for the whole being?
By visiting a well-trained Chinese Medicine doctor in your area you could learn about your body’s strengths and weaknesses. By asking questions you would know which of the patterns of disharmony is predominant in your particular situation and could receive further suggestions for your sciatica pain.
Patients who present lumbago or sciatica symptoms in a TCM clinic are usually diagnosed as suffering from a type or a combination of the following Bi syndromes:
Wandering Bi, which relates to wind Painful Bi, which relates to cold Fixed Bi, which relates to dampness Febrile Bi, which relates to heat and feverish conditionsAll of them involve blocking or slowing down the Chi or/and blood flow, often in the lower half of the body. Weakness and/or a serious injury to the back are often important factors underlying a sciatica pain. Since ancient times Bi syndromes have been considered to be the influences of cold, damp, and wind. Because this kind of lower back pain’s tendency is to radiate down the leg, the condition is frequently attributed to a combination of cold and damp, which are Yin factors with a natural downward course.
Wind, as an external pathogenic factor, contributes to the wandering nature of the pain, particularly if the surface Chi or vital energy of the body is weak. Kidney ‘domain’, which includes all urinary and sexual functions as well as the bone marrow and the brain, is the foundation of life according to TCM. These functions can become weakened, and what is first Kidney Chi deficiency can develop into Kidney Yang deficiency seriously upsetting the Yin/Yang balance of the whole body. This happens usually by a loss of sperm through excessive sex (in men) or other factors and advancing age in both genders. The body may not be able to ward off the cold and damp affecting the lower body, therefore creating a Yin excessive condition, which for the lack of movement ‘stagnates’. In this case, the external wind may not be the main factor, but with cold and damp can exacerbate it and make it appear as if the symptoms wander.
Do It Yourself Needle-less Nano Acupuncture as a Sciatica Pain Relief
Finding relief is our number one priority when experiencing any kind of pain whether it is acute, chronic or episodic. And today many people search for alternatives to prescription drugs for sciatica pain relief. Acupuncture is a growing trend. As a part of TCM practice, the art of acupuncture involves unblocking Chi, the body’s Vital Energy Force that flows through channels continuously. If Chi is blocked or weak, physical or mental illness develops. The purpose of acupuncture is to restore a healthy flow of Chi throughout the body in order to have perfect balance and harmony in all its functions. In the case of sciatica symptoms, when the channels are opened they have their natural warmth, the dampness is overcome and the whole body strengthened to withstand wind, cold and damp.
A new Nano Acupuncture is a non-invasive, gentle therapy for the clinic or home use. Anxiety-Relief
March 2019
From Anxiety to Trust
When life presents its many challenges, such as can happen in close relationships where our emotions play an important role, it’s not easy to chase away thoughts of misinterpretations and mounting anxieties, which can overwhelm our positive choices.
However, I have learned that there is always a moment to recognize, then realign myself with the great Spirit, which helps me choose the reality that is trusting, positive and more objective, instead of the negative one which wants to dominate.
The negatives are forces we don’t understand but arise because of some previous experiences, perhaps even from another lifetime.
Reflection and Prayer
Achieved through reflection and prayer, the alignment to the power of God or the Essence of Being becomes real. This alignment to great Love is our job, which starts as healing any physical pain by tracing backwards from the pain through the acupuncture/neural pathways to the limbic system in the deep brain.
Here, our past traumas are stored in hypothalamus/pituitary, the command centre of the body. From there the thought attention naturally shifts to the master gland Pineal, recognized as the Seat of the Soul or the Door to Perception by well-known writers such as Aldous Huxley.
The Pineal gland is our connection point to the power grid of the Source.
Five Elements of Psychology
We can work on emotional issues in order to overcome worry, anxiety or depression the same way as dealing with physical pain. Looking at the Five Elements chart you see that worry and over thinking are emotions associated with the Earth element, therefore Spleen/Pancreas/Stomach. The nourishing energy should flow from Heart/Small Intestine and controlling energy across the cycle from Liver/GB, the Wood.
Also, anxiety is associated with the Fire element, the Heart/SI, which can become too hot and anxious. The heart, when anxious and self-centred cannot nourish the Spleen/Stomach, the Earth element, which is associated with too much thinking and worry.
Then, see the Wood element Liver/GallBladder, living with annoyance, intolerance and anger. If so, how can it nourish the Heart’s hastiness or raging fire, or control the Earth with its concerns and worries?
No harmony can reign in this situation, where a transformation is necessary in each section to attain peacefulness.
Liver anger must change into kindness, the heart’s hot anxiety to deep compassion and caring, spleen’s worry to peaceful thinking of the Origin (using the Name meaningful to you), which can make you happily hum, whistle or sing.
Being alert to thoughts is necessary for any kind of work in order to achieve what we want.
We are so clever in our thinking since as humans we have had the intellect as our master for eons. This has got us into great trouble.
Now we have to learn to reign our thoughts by using Light guidance of the all-powerful Spirit. For some of us this takes a bit of practice in meditation or prayer – not the begging kind but thankfully praising great Love.
There is a spark for shifting/changing every thought. Without that spark, there would no thinking. That spark is the switch for putting on the light of Guidance. Become alert and use that switch with your other strategies.
Use the Acu Stones
Please click to learn about our programs and the no-needle acupuncture kit. Take time to put the stones on the appropriate points. Press each stone against the skin for ten seconds so that it makes a good connection to your acupuncture channel, then just relax, meditate and watch what happens. This was my habit when I had anxiety rising in the middle of the night going through a crisis. By concentrating on centring during the treatments my trust in the process grew.
This is my message for you today about worry and anxiety – they are not real. They are phobic manifestations in our mind. When they first appear, that is the time to switch them off.
Apply other Modalities
In addition, you may want to use other relaxing ways, drink more water, eat right, exercise as a meditation – Chi Kung or TaiChi, take more Vit.C and D, take herbal tablets such as Kwei Bi Wan, which pacifies the heart and nourishes the spleen. Have those around in case you need calmness so that these relationships of the organ systems become balanced.
This is what our journey is, about the relationships and how the right psychology emerges from understanding the Five-Elements Theory.
Be Well!
I hope that you have a wonderful day. I’m having a great day now.
Keep well and be happy. Thank you, Anna
The following post is from my earlier notes;
The Role of Fear in Anxiety Disorder
If you have ever experienced anxiety attacks, even a single one of them, it has left a terrifying imprint in your mind that can fill you with irrational fears and worries. Dealing with anxiety disorder is not a small thing and fear of them can trigger new symptoms.
A friend of mine, usually calm and collected, asked for help on how to deal with anxiety and fears. A devastating experience that took place a decade ago had landed her in the hospital. Now the symptoms had appeared out of the blue.
She had carried suppressed anxiety stress all these years.
They had emerged as:
-
The feeling of being stressed out
-
Irritability
-
Restlessness
-
Inability to concentrate
-
Fears
-
Fatigue
-
Insomnia
-
Muscle tension
-
Diarrhea
-
Occasional chest pain
Extremely Western in her lifestyle, my friend felt that the Chinese Medicine approach was too alien to her. But to overcome her constant state of tension and paralyzing symptoms she was open to try other alternatives. I suggested that she go to www.PanicAway.com to check out Barry Joe’s anxiety self-help system. He has assisted tens of thousands of people to get their lives back on healthy track again.
Symptoms vary from person to person, therefore the ones in the above list may not be similar to yours, but if you suspect that your symptoms belong to the anxiety disorder category, you may also want to learn about our non-invasive Anxiety Self Help page.
With either approach, you’ll be glad you followed through!
If any questions or comments come to your mind about stress and especially about anxiety disorder please feel free to convey them to me. I’ll be happy to listen and exchange ideas and experiences with you!

What is Nanotechnology?
Nanotechnology is a new science which will have a profound impact on all of our lives. It is essentially a manufacturing process – one that occurs at the molecular level.
For this very sophisticated equipment is required because the building blocks of material are so small. However, at the molecular level familiar materials can be re-build and made to do things they could not do otherwise. Holistic Healing Disks are a perfect example of this new technology.

Messages from Committed Users
“For most of my adult life, I have suffered from migraines and headaches. Chiropractic adjustments helped but I continued to experience mild headaches and tension-related stiffness.
Using the disks on the suggested areas (back of the neck and top of the wrists) has effectively removed any tension-related headaches and symptoms. I also sleep better, and I am generally more relaxed.” – Becky S.
“I use the disks regularly to boost my immune system and for rejuvenation.” – Elizabeth L.
